The SNP/Greens have done more damage to the Scottish PRS than a demolition contractor. They have absolutely no idea what’s needed or what they’re doing. The Greens are self confessed landlord haters. Some of the social media posts from them, as our government representatives, are arrogant and ignorant! Time for change!

I hate to see any business fail but PB arrogance knew no bounds, squandered millions of investors cash on the way! Their “no commission slogan” was misleading from day one. “Any fee paid, is a commission” and trading standards should have been all over it. No loss to the industry of great hard working agents.

Fair article highlighting the massive shortage of affordable housing which needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. However, I am 63,years old, started off doing my training in a housing drawing office. When qualified there was still no way I could have afforded to rent a property, not even a 1 bed in a small town in central Scotland and didn’t qualify for a council house. I took on 3 other jobs (yes 4 at once) stayed with my parents until I had a deposit and bought, as buying was cheaper. I made the sacrifices then. PS … interest rate was 15%! In reality I suspect things haven’t changed that much it’s just spare cash is being spent very differently “in some cases” now. Let’s keep our fingers crossed the governments waken up and take note of the serious housing problem which is getting worse by the day!

I hear everything you’ve said here Andrew and respect your opinion . I also appreciate the world changes and how it works in different ways as it used to. However, the bottom line is this “lifestyle thing” has to be financed. If someone can afford it with their hard earned cash then go for it. If not and they are able bodied .. stop being a taker. People can do what they want , until they want if they have the cash but too many blame society when they can’t buy a home of their own, when clearly they could. PS … when I started out interest rates were 15% and had 4 jobs. It nearly broke me … but here I am.

This isn’t just about Greggs. It’s about not having the latest iPhone, nails done at £25 a time, leasing new cars, heavy drinking and clubbing at the weekend etc. The agent had a good point and many people just don’t want to hear it. Grow up, take responsibility, life is hard.

I also I agree I’m not a fan of KA, however I do agree with every word she has said. It’s high time the young generation woke up to the realities that owning your own home is not a god given right. Sacrifices have to be made. Our first mortgage was at 15% too, we got paving slabs for our birthday from family so we could improve the outside, one packet of biscuits a month. Hardly war times I accept, but wanted to get on. When we had our estate agency we often struggled to sell nice 1 bed flats at c. £70k in good areas as the young team all wanted fancy and better houses than that. More people need to shout like Kirsty. They have the money but want to spend it on toys, tattoos and tat. Life’s hard, waken up!

Had the 4% in Scotland for a while now. Was brought in to allow first time buyers get on the ladder and discourage landlords but has made absolutely no difference. Re more social housing... still a massive shortage.

Good lord, who sits and makes this stuff up. I used to own a successful sales and letting agency and started at &.00am and never left before 8.00pm at night on many days. Then there was weekends. Plus, answering messages after hours and tenants breakdowns...and we had 8 staff too. If the writer of the article needs a chat, I’m here 24 hours a day!

I agree Phil. As commented above, at least high street agents have the best of both worlds now and a greater advantage than companies like PB who were already shaking pre Covid19.

Presumably if it’s easier for first time buyers to get on the property ladder now they can reduce the 4% stamp duty for buy to let properties now, which was apparently affecting there chances ...don’t hold your breath!

Old news, which has been the same old story for years, whilst small private agencies fight to give great service without access to massive bank overdrafts and budgets! Makes my blood boil. Support smaller local agencies instead of faceless corporate raiders!

Excellent article highlighting the adverse effects of unfair and negative reviews. It is high time there were fines for intentional inaccurate and misleading reviews of companies who work extremely hard to offer great service and train staff. Wholly not acceptable. Businesses are also constrained by the fact that they are often unable to post the whole story and facts due to data protection, which is essentially fighting with one hand behind their backsi, giving the receivers post more credit than it should get!

Excellent article, many thanks for your support on this. Renting and selling properties has almost become a sideline to dealing with compliance! They appear to biting the hand that feeds one of the main housing suppliers in the UK. Time for stronger action by our industry bodies.
